Fraser Island, one of Australia's unique wilderness areas, is located just over 200km north of Brisbane, Queensland. Because of Fraser Island's unique sand structure, it has been included in the World Heritage List due to its outstanding features. Fraser Island is over 123km long and approx 250m high. The forces of nature have formed Fraser Island purely of sand, and it is for this reason that it is known as the largest sand island in the world. Four wheel drive vehicles are required to negotiate the sandy environment of the island, both on the beach and on the inland tracks and trails. Permits are required for all vehicles crossing temporarily and they must be fixed to the windscreen of the vehicle.

Vehicular barges operate daily from Hervey Bay to Moon Point, Wangoolba Creek or Kingfisher Resort on Fraser Island or you can catch a barge from Rainbow Beach (Inskip Point) to Hook Point on the southern tip of the island. You need to book all barges except those from Inskip Point. It is strongly suggested to buy a good map of Fraser and to take a tyre pressure gauge with you.
Seashell Lodge is an ideal accommodation choice for a holiday to Fraser Island!
